When measuring the vibration of pumps in pumped storage units, cavitation is the main failure state. This experimental setup can be used to deliberately cause cavitation and study its effect on the vibration spectrum. It consists of a single-stage centrifugal pump, piping and storage tank. Ball valves in the delivery and inlet pipes allow setting up various operating conditions. The pumps of this pumped storage unit can be directly connected to the motor using flexible couplings to provide the drive force.
The accessory kit consists of a single-stage centrifugal pump with a ball valve and pressure indicator in the feed pipe and delivery pipes. It is possible to connect the pump directly to the drive motor unit on the basic test bench by means of a flexible coupling. The transparent plastic pump casing provides a view of the inside of the pump during operation. This allows observation of cavitation as it occurs. A ball valve provides the necessary conditions for cavitation to occur.
