Jiangsu Ocean University is a full-time undergraduate institution under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province. Its predecessor was Huaihai University (planned) established by Chuangli in 1985, and was approved by the Ministry of Education as Huaihai Institute of Technology in 1989. From 1998 to 2002, the former Jiangsu Salt Industry School, Lianyungang Fisheries School, and Lianyungang Chemical Industry College, all with a history of over 40 years, were successively merged into Huaihai Institute of Technology.
