Tongji University completes acceptance of PT500 machine vibration simulator

Tongji University has a long history and outstanding reputation. It is a world-class university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly built with Shanghai. After 116 years of development, Tongji University has become a comprehensive institution with distinct characteristics and significant influence both domestically and internationally.

The school was founded in 1907 by German doctor Erich Baolong with the support of the governments and various sectors of society in China and Germany. In 1908, the German Medical School was renamed Tongji German Medical School. In 1912, it was jointly known as Tongji German Medical Engineering School with the newly established Tongji German Engineering School. In 1917, it was taken over by Chinese and subsequently renamed as Tongji Medical and Engineering School and Private Tongji Medical and Engineering Specialized School. In 1923, it was named Tongji University and became a national university in 1927. It is one of the earliest national universities in China. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan in 1937, Tongji University underwent six relocations and moved to Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places. In 1940, it moved to Lizhuang Ancient Town in Yibin, Sichuan to continue its education. After relocating to Shanghai in 1946, it developed into Yili. A comprehensive university renowned for its five major colleges of engineering, medicine, literature, and law. In the nationwide departmental adjustment that began in 1949, Tongji University's advantageous disciplines such as liberal arts, law, medicine, science, machinery, electrical engineering, shipbuilding, surveying and mapping were either supported by other universities or relocated to the mainland as a whole. At the same time, more than 10 civil engineering and architecture related disciplines from universities across the country converge at Tongji University, making it the largest and most comprehensive engineering university in the field of civil engineering and architecture in China. After 1978, the school implemented "two transformations" - resuming exchanges with Germany from closed education to open education, expanding the scope of disciplines from engineering universities mainly focused on civil engineering to comprehensive universities mainly focused on science and engineering. In 1996, Shanghai Urban Construction College and Shanghai Institute of Building Materials Industry were merged and listed as national "21 Project" construction universities. In 200 years, it merged with Shanghai Railway University to form the new Tongji University. In 2002, it was listed as a national "985 Project" construction university. In 2003, Shanghai University of Aeronautics and Astronautics was placed under the management of Tongji University. In 2004, it was listed as a centrally managed university. In 2017, it was listed as a Class A university for the construction of world-class universities in China.
